If you want something good looking, epic, handy and of course magical, this is you mod! This work of art by Azanor has to be one of the most amazing and stunning mods I have ever seen, ever. It’s all about the magical and the mysterious. Thaumcraft allows you to make many magical items and machines.
The basics of this mod is that each chunk has it’s own aura level (the amount of magical energy in a chunk) There is two types of Aura: Vis (Which is the good, positive magic) and Taint (The dark and evil magic. You don’t want this!) Each chunk has it’s own balance of these two types of aura. If a chunk gets too much taint some really bad stuff can start happening, like this:
If the chunk has a good amount of Vis in it, it can spawn more nice stuff, like the Silverwood Tree and the Greatwood Tree:
Around the world you will find these cool looking crystals:
This one is a Vis crystal. There are also Vaporous, Earthen, Fiery, Aqueous and Tainted. They can all be used for different thing but you will want a lot of them as they are key in creating all you Thaumcraft goodies! Also note that when you bread one of these crystals it will decrease the Vis aura very slightly, but not enough to really worry about
Now, the first thing you will want to make is one of these Vis Crucibles:
If you throw any item into one of these it will produce Liquid Vis. Rarer items will produce more Liquid Vis. This Vis will be used to power all of you other Thaumcraft items. Another thing to note is that this will pruduce 50% Vis but also 50% Taint, not the most efficient way but it’s the only way to start off. Next thing you’ll need is a way to transport this stuff. Just simply craft a Vis Conduit:
Now, the next thing you will want is a Infuser. Sort of like the crafting table of Thaumcraft. It will use vis (only 100% pure vis) to operate:
You will see a GUI like this:
Fairly simple, any item of the recipe will go in any of the circles. The bottom circle is where the depleted crystal will land if you used a crystal in the recipe. Different items take different amounts of Vis (some Taint but that’s a bit more advanced). Now that you have one of these you can make your storage tanks (for storing Vis and/or Taint).
To make the enchanted wood in this recipe simply infuse one log and one crystal of any kind.
Next thing I would like to tell you about is the research system. Many and most of the recipes in Thaumcraft are discovories that you cannot make until you discover them. To do this you research items in your Quasitum.
Basically with this block, you can research any item by placing it in the research slot. Normal items have a very small chance of success but rarer items like the artifacts you can find in dungeons have a much higher chance on yielding success. If an item is succesful you will get a knowledge fragment, either a lost, forbidden, tainted or eldtritch. They each have different types of items associated with them. If you research these fragments you have a chance of getting a theory. A theory will tell you what you are researching but you will have to research it 5 times before yielding any results.
This is everything I’m going to cover in this review but believe me there is so much more crazy stuff I haven’t gotten to! Things like, Arcane bore, teleport seals, lightning wands, scary obelisks and flying carpets! I also must say, this mod definitely has some of the coolest visual effects in a minecraft mod, ever! It’s not only fun to play with but it’s also gorgeous to look at! I highly recommend anyone to check this mod out! If you like this go over to Azanor and give him a huge virtual hug!
