This mod is extremely simple but almost a necessity. It provides an easy to use visual compass at the top of your screen in the form of a horizontally scrolling bar. The bar shows you which direction you are facing (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW) to a great degree of accuracy. As you turn your character around, the bar scrolls with you, always showing you your current direction in real time. The mod is not interactive and the only feature it offers is the visual aid but since I’ve started using it, I can’t play without it! It’s exceptionally good for how simple it is.
With the newer versions of the mod, it now offers you some customizable settings. The first setting I found useful to change was the option to show the compass while you are chatting. I turned this to false because there’s a possibility it will cut off a tiny part of the text somebody has typed. The compass also disappears when you are holding down tab to reveal the player list in survival multiplayer. This is useful because if it stayed visible, it can block off some players’ names. If you would like to move the compass to a different location on your screen, this can be achieved by giving it an x and y offset in the configuration file. This is a little tricky to adjust and may take a few trys to get it where you want it.
Overall, it’s a fantastic mod despite it being basic and I believe the Minecraft developers should implement this into the game.
